Aarti is derived from the sanskrit word which means something that removes darkness. The Aarti involves waving lighted wicks before the sacred images to infuse the flames with the Deities’ love, energy and blessings. In the MAHA AARTI the paraphernalia for worship is gathered on a tray and placed on a small table for the ceremony. This includes: a small pot of water with a spoon; incense within a holder; a lamp with ghee wicks; a bell; a pot of pure water; a small conch-shell on a three-legged stand; a clean folded handkerchief; flowers on a little plate. We perform Aarti to praise Sri Radha Krishna, show gratitude, ask forgiveness and request from Krishna.
