Appearance Day of Srila Prabhupada at ISKCON Ghaziabad

Every year, thousands of devotees gather to celebrate the Appearance Day of Srila Prabhupada, especially at ISKCON Ghaziabad, where the air becomes filled with devotion, joy, and spiritual energy. But this day is not just about remembering a person. It is about remembering a soul who changed lives, gave meaning to existence, and brought the teachings of Shri Krishna to every heart.

On this sacred day, devotees do more than offering flowers and singing kirtans. They remember his sacrifices, read his books, chant the holy name, and try to walk the path he showed.

The Life of Srila Prabhupada – A Journey of Divine Purpose

Srila Prabhupada was born as Abhay Charan De in Kolkata in 1896. He was a child deeply connected with Shri Krishna. From a young age, he showed signs of spiritual longing. He would not eat anything unless it was first offered to the Lord. His father lovingly encouraged his devotion and even arranged for little Abhay to worship small deities of Shri Radha-Krishna at home.

As he grew, so did his thirst for spiritual truth. In 1922, he met his spiritual master, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, who told him something that changed his life: You should spread Shri Krishna Consciousness in the English-speaking world.” This was not just advice. It became a sacred order in Prabhupada’s heart.

But that mission would take many years of preparation, patience, and prayer.

A Voyage of Faith in Shri Krishna

In 1965, at the age of 69, Srila Prabhupada boarded a cargo ship named Jaladuta to sail from India to the United States. He had no money, no support, and no worldly security. But he had something much stronger; faith in Shri Krishna, the Bhagavad Gita, and the instruction of his guru.

The journey wasn’t easy. He faced two severe heart attacks during the trip. But he prayed to Shri Krishna, saying, “I am Your puppet, make me dance as You like.” That prayer became the foundation of a global movement.

Once in America, he started preaching in New York City. He stayed in a small room, cooked his own food, and lived very simply. Yet, people were drawn to him. They listened to his words, chanted with him, and slowly began to understand the beauty of Shri Krishna Consciousness.

These teachings continue to guide millions of people around the world. They are simple, but they are also very deep.

ISKCON Ghaziabad – A Temple Filled with Love & Devotion

At the heart of Ghaziabad, the ISKCON temple stands as a shining light of devotion. It was built to carry forward Srila Prabhupada’s mission. On Srila Prabhupada’s Appearance Day, the temple becomes a spiritual festival. The entire atmosphere is filled with kirtan, Guru Puja, devotional drama, lectures, and offerings.

Devotees from all walks of life gather together—young and old, rich and poor—all united by the love of Shri Krishna and respect for Srila Prabhupada’s contribution to the world.

His deity is offered garlands, abhishek (holy bathing), and heartfelt prayers. Children present his life story in plays. Elders speak about their experiences. Everyone offers something from the heart.

It is not just a celebration. It is a spiritual re-commitment.

The Role of Children and Youth in His Mission

Srila Prabhupada always said, Children are the future of Shri Krishna Consciousness.” He wanted children to grow up with spiritual values and love for Shri Krishna.

On this day, encourage children to:

  • Draw or color pictures of Shri Krishna and Srila Prabhupada.
  • Memorize simple verses from the Bhagavad Gita.
  • Perform a small drama or poem about Prabhupada’s life.
  • Help in preparing prasadam or decorating the altar.

Youth can use their energy and skills to spread spiritual awareness. They can organize events, post spiritual content online, and volunteer in temples. In this way, the next generation becomes the carriers of Srila Prabhupada’s mission.

Bhagavad Gita – The Book That Changed the World

One of Srila Prabhupada’s greatest gifts to the world is the Bhagavad Gita. Unlike other commentaries that change Shri Krishna’s words. Srila Prabhupada presented it just as it was spoken; pure and perfect.

Why is this book so special?

  • It answers life’s most important questions: Who am I? Why am I here?
  • It gives practical steps to overcome problems like stress, anger, and confusion.
  • It reveals how to connect with Shri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Reading this book even for a few minutes a day brings clarity and strength. On his appearance day, reading a verse or sharing it with someone becomes a powerful offering.

Why Shri Krishna Chose Srila Prabhupada

Have you ever wondered why Srila Prabhupada was the one chosen for this mission?

The answer lies in his purity, humility, and deep surrender. He never wanted fame, wealth, or comfort. He only wanted to serve his guru and please Shri Krishna.

Shri Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita 4.11:

ये यथा मां प्रपद्यन्ते तांस्तथैव भजाम्यहम् ।
मम वर्त्मानुवर्तन्ते मनुष्याः पार्थ सर्वशः ॥

Transliteration:

ye yathā māṁ prapadyante tāṁs tathaiva bhajāmy aham
mama vartmānuvartante manuṣyāḥ pārtha sarvaśaḥ

Meaning: Shri Krishna says that he rewards every person according to how they surrender to him.

Srila Prabhupada surrendered fully. So, Shri Krishna gave him the power to change the world.

The Power of Giving – Donate with Devotion

Srila Prabhupada said, “You become purified by giving Shri Krishna consciousness to others.” One way to do this is through donation.

On this day, donating to the ISKCON Ghaziabad temple is not just a kind act; it is a spiritual offering. Your donation helps:

  • Feed the hungry through prasadam distribution
  • Spread spiritual books to schools, libraries, and homes
  • Maintain and decorate the temple
  • Support spiritual festivals and events

Even small donations, when offered with love, are powerful in Krishna’s eyes. As Bhagavad Gita 17.20 says:

दातव्यमिति यद्दानं दीयतेऽनुपकारिणे
देशे काले  पात्रे  तद्दानं सात्त्विकं स्मृतम्

Transliteration:
dātavyam iti yad dānaṁ dīyate ‘nupakāriṇe
deśe kāle ca pātre ca tad dānaṁ sāttvikaṁ smṛtam

Charity given selflessly at the right time, place, and to a deserving person is pure.

This is the perfect time.

Conclusion

The Appearance Day of Srila Prabhupada is not just about the past. It is about the present and the future. It is about living what he lived; serving Shri Krishna, spreading his name, and being kind to all.

At ISKCON Ghaziabad, this spirit lives every day. On this day, it shines brighter than ever.

Let us all become humble servants in his mission. Let us chant, serve, share, and love—just as he did.
