Books are important sources of knowledge and since their inception, they have changed the world drastically. We have many examples where revolutions were brought by great leaders with the help of books. Today we will discuss a great personality who started a revolution with his books. His name was HDG A.C Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada the founder Acharya of ISKCON, he was 69 years old when he traveled to New York in 1965. He has written many books and given his commentaries on scriptures. Within his lifetime he wrote books and instructed his disciples to distribute books to spread Krishna Consciousness to the whole world.
Books are the Basis
Prabhupada spread this Krishna consciousness movement within the whole world with the help of his books. He said he will live always within his books and anyone who has not seen or met him physically can associate with him through his book. He has provided complete knowledge in his books. He distributed books in Delhi and New York City streets himself and encouraged his disciples to do so. His books impacted the lives of many people and they joined his Krishna Consciousness Movement. He turned Hippies into Happy and constructed more than 108 temples and centers across the world. He has written ‘Bhagavad Gita As It Is’ which is famous worldwide and available in more than 60 languages, and also written his commentaries in several other scriptures like Srimad Bhagavatam, Nector of Devotion, and Chaitanya Charitamritra etc.
Book Marathon
You might have seen devotees in a dhoti kurta and tilak on their forehead distributing books at traffic lights or on busy streets of your cities. There are chances that it was a Book Marathon going on, Every year in December ISKCON organizes a Book Marathon, it is the time when every devotee of ISKCON takes a pledge and for the pleasure of Prabhupada puts extra endeavor into distributing Prabupada’s Bhagwad Gita As It Is and other books also. ISKCON Ghaziabad every year distributes 35k to 40k books.
Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT)
Srila Prabhupada established Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) a publication house for printing Vaishnav literature, scriptures, and theological books. Once he said that, if my whole movement would be destroyed but if my books were there it would be started again easily. He has brought timeless wisdom from the Vedic scriptures and compiled them into layman’s language in his books, he said no matter how fallen a soul would be if anyone read his books would understand Vaishnav Philosophy very easily and become fixed in Krishna consciousness.
