New year 2024 – beginning of “Nava-Varsha” according to English calendar. People make New Year Resolution for betterment of life. It is more celebrated in Western countries. People celebrate the new year on the 31st of December night and continue their celebration till 1st of January, which is first day of the year 2024.
What Does The New Year Mean? How Should One Celebrate It?
For devotees of lord Krishna, every day is new or fresh as Krishna is evergreen and we celebrate with him every day. A great devotee of lord Sri Krishna “Yamunacarya” said.
yad-avadhi mama cetahkrsna-padaravinde
nava-nava-rasa-dhamanyudyatamrantumasit
“Since my mind has been engaged in the service of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna, I have been enjoying an ever-new transcendental taste.”
Each day, We celebrate Krishna consciousness with great ecstasy. Generally, some people start their first day of new year by consuming alcohol and later meet with an accident but for a devotee of lord Krishna celebrating something new means making delicious prasadam and distributing it after offering it to lord Krishna, chanting names of lord Hari, performing Sankirtan and releasing transcendental vibrations through it, dancing on the beats of mridanga and praying to lord for everyone’s betterment, this is how devotees celebrate each day.
Even though it is not in our Indian tradition to celebrate new year on 1st January as it is celebrated so much nowadays so better to celebrate it beautifully rather than consuming poison and harming ourselves.
Kindly participate in Gita Daan to spread Bhagavad Gita knowledge among people for the pleasure of Shri Shri Radha Madan Mohan. Iskcon Ghaziabad will distribute the Bhagavad Gita on your behalf.

What Resolutions One Should Take On New Year 2024?
New Year Resolution 2024 Meaning: ‘Resolution’ means a strong decision to do something.
Many people make New Year resolutions for the betterment of their lives. They take different kinds of vows to follow them for a whole year. Almost all of us fail to follow our New Year resolutions so first resolution one should take is that they will follow their New Year resolution.
New Year Resolutions one can take to make their life better-
1. Resolution To Become The Best Version Of Ourselves–
Being the best version of ourselves does not mean uplifting ourselves materially, getting promotions, or buying cars or bungalows. It means giving up bad habits for example those who drink alcohol, smoke, have anger and lust-related issues and any other bad habits should take resolution to leave such bad habits and adopt something good in their life. Shrimad Bhagavad Gita would help to leave such bad habits. Just by reading Bhagavad Gita, one can remain calm, and positive and live a stress-free life.
Even if we see someone struggling to leave such bad habits, we should help them, there are many courses in ISKCON and many counselling sessions which one can join to get rid of such habits.
2. Resolution To Become More Kind- What Becoming Kind Means?
It means-
In ŚB 3.21.31krishna says,
kṛtvādayāṁ ca jīveṣu
dattvācābhayamātmavān
mayyātmānaṁsahajagad
drakṣyasyātmanicāpimām
Translation
“Showing compassion to all living entities, you will attain self-realization. Giving assurance of safety to all, you will perceive your self as well as all the universes in Me, and Myself in you”.
As it is said in Bhagavad Gita becoming kind means showing compassion to all living entities. Living entities does not only mean showing compassion towards human beings, we should show compassion and love towards animals too. Eating animals just for the sake of taste is a cruel thing. We humbly request you to avoid eating meat, meat eating is counted among the cruellest crimes in Shastras. Those who eat meat should take the resolution of becoming vegetarian.
3. Resolution To Become Charitable–
Performing charity means helping someone but also means helping someone in their spiritual upliftment. We should be charitable without expecting any result.
Even if we are unable to go around and feed poor people or are unable to help someone in their spiritual upliftment, there are several programmes led by ISKCON such as Food for Life (under this programme we distribute sumptuous and healthy food to poor and needy people) ISKCON free Gita distribution programme (we distribute free Gita to those who cannot afford to buy Bhagavad Gita for examples in jails, orphanages, old age homes and slums) you can donate for these programmes on your name to perform charity.
Kindly participate in Gita Daan to spread Bhagavad Gita knowledge among people for the pleasure of Shri Shri Radha Madan Mohan. Iskcon Ghaziabad will distribute the Bhagavad Gita on your behalf.
4. Resolution of Reading Bhagavad Gita Daily–
It has been said by many famous personalities like Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, APJ Abdul Kalam and many more famous personalities have quoted how Bhagavad Gita changed their life. Reading Bhagavad Gita not only help us in spiritual advancement but also gives us a solution to our problems. We should make it a habit of reading at least one page daily to change our life Or if you fail to understand Bhagavad Gita by self-reading then you can visit nearby iskcon temple and join free courses regarding Bhagavad Gita in offline or online mode.
5. Resolution To Remain Positive And Spread Positiveness –
We see people losing hope in any situation in life and this leads to problems like stress, anxiety, and mental pressure. We should train ourselves and others to remain positive in any situation of life.
Positivity gives us energy to be more fruitful in any situation and it helps us to fight all problems. So, I want to become a more positive person and help others also to remain positive.
One of the most important New Year resolutions that one can take for New Year 2024 is to start chanting of the Lord Krishna every day. In the age of Kali, the easiest way of spiritual realisation is chanting the holy name of lord Krishna, Hare Krishna mahamantra as suggested by Vedas–
HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA,
KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE,
HARE RAMA HARE RAMA ,
RAMA RAMA HARE HARE
It purifies our hearts. It relieves us from the miseries of our life. You can visit the nearby ISKCON centre for more guidance related to chanting.
