Papmochni Ekadashi 2024 Dates

This year 2024, Papmochni Ekadashi falls on 05 April 2024.

Papmochni Ekadashi Vrat Katha

It is described in Brahmanda Purana that once Yudhishthir Maharaj asked Lord Krishna a question –

What is the glory of this Ekadashi fast?

In reply Lord Shri Krishna said – In ancient times, there was a very beautiful forest decorated with flowers.

Many times Devraj Indra used to come in the pleasant forest  and in this same forest the brilliant sage, son of Rishi Chyavan and a great devotee of Lord Shiva, used to do penance.

Once Kamadeva sent an Apsara named Manjughosha to distract the brilliant sage

Manjughosha attracted the sage towards herself and the sage also fell in love with her. And he gave up his severe penance and continued enjoying with this Apsara day and night. One day Manjughosha asked for permission to go to Devlok, on this the sage became very angry and he realized that he had spent all his time getting attracted to Manjughosha, being extremely angry he cursed Manjughosha of being a vampire.

After this curse, Manjughosha started asking for forgiveness from the sage and asked for a solution to get rid of this curse. Then the wise sage advised him to strictly observe the fast of Papmochani Ekadashi and by observing this fast, all the sins of Manju Ghosha were destroyed and he also got freedom from the vampire species.

In this way, whoever observes this Papmochani Ekadashi fast with devotion gets freedom from major sins, so let us observe Papmochani Ekadashi with devotion and move forward in Krishna consciousness.
