The History of Love Feast
The Sunday ‘Love Feasts’ was a term coined by Srila Prabhupada in the early days of the Hare Krishna movement in America. He would hold lunches once or twice a week, providing delicious Krishna prasadam to the entire hippie community of 26 Second Avenue, New York.
Love Feasts: Beginning of a sweet relationship
Krishna is the storehouse of pleasure. The food that is offered to the Lord becomes non-different from Him. When someone eats such sanctified food, free of all karmic reactions, they feel a great sense of satisfaction immediately. This sweet hook brings back many souls again to the prasadam, and in the time being, they become devotees of the Lord.
Sunday Love Feasts: A global phenomenon
What started from a small storefront in New York, where Srila Prabhupada first gave the taste of the plethora of Indian-vegetarian preparations to the world, is now a global phenomenon. Today, the Sunday Love Feast is celebrated worldwide, where anyone, regardless of their faith, honours Krishna’s mercy with the chanting of Hare Krishna Maha-mantra.
The culture of providing sumptuous lunches to everyone is popular throughout the world. Every ISKCON community, wherever they may be, keeps a love feast on Sundays. Millions of people have received Krishna’s direct mercy by honouring delicious prasadam.
